Boost Your MTNL Broadband

This post deals with the terrible MTNL service and connections and how to make your TriBand work like a dream.

Everybody knows that MTNL made the Broadband dream come true. We were through with the slow dial-up connection and finally upgraded to broadband! Yeah!

But now, the service is absolutely horrible. Of course Airtel Broadband rocks and provides better service than MTNL, but its way too expensive. All we need to do is make some settings and tweak the settings a bit to make the Internet work like a charm.

Follow these steps:

1) Open Internet Explorer only. Firefox will not do.

2) Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar, and a login window will appear, Type admin in the username as well as in the password field.

Click for a high-res image

The Login Screen

3) Now you should face an image which looks like this. Click WAN on the sidebar.

The Home Page

4) Now, you should go on to this page. Enter the settings as shown in the picture. In the username field, enter your telephone number – the one through which your broadband is connected. In the password field, enter your CA number which is given on your telephone bill. However, the CA number can also be derived from your phone number. If your phone number is 27xxxxxx, then your CA number will be 2041xxxxxx.

If you changed your password on www.register.bol.net.in, then you should enter that password.

When you’re through, click Apply.

The WAN settings page.

5) Click on the Tools tab at the top of the page and click System. Now click Save and Reboot. This will take some time, and the page may not reload, But that does not matter. Don’t panic if you get a “Page Not Found” error or something like that.

That’s it, you’re done! Now the net should work like a charm. If it doesn’t, I offer my heartiest condolences.

well firstly it works in firefox also
and secondly its no way of boosting mtnl speed…it just the default way of logging to pppoe protocol in mtnl.. it won’t give you a speed boost afaik

@avadakedavra: I tried it in Firefox 3.0.1 and the settings could not be saved (in step 5). And where in the post does it say that it boosts the speed? It just says it will “make the TriBand work like a dream”. That means there will be no conflicts and no problems, Also, Dynamic IP is selected, so the IP will change and will give clear access with no blockage. After I did this at my home, the speed shot up by a clear amount of 50-70 KBps.
The schoolofhackers is a nice site though. The Assassin’s Creed for mobile rocked!

No doubt mtnl triband services are the fastest one. provided one must know how to fill-up the required forms and other requirements for activation of the services.
    1) help provided on 1504 is very slow and not prompt.
    2) Response given by the broadband staff members not at all. messages received from them are as under.
    a) First, all call centers are busy.
    b) Engineers are busy.
    c) Server cannot be found.
    d) It takes week to correct the fault.
    e) Telephone faults etc.
Please make the make the broadband services as the number one
in the world. For this required an efficient staff.

@ifhusain: How can I provide services to users? I am not an MTNL employee! I’m merely a user. I fiddled with the Modem settings and hacked this method,

If providing help is what you meant, you can contact me via this section.

I mean 199 MTNL plan not 119 plan

And BTW its practically inpossible to boost your speed from your modem since speeed is regulated from server,

its RTOS out there managing the whole show.and it wont let you enter and tweak the mainframe… your modem is just a bus to carry packets from server to your local machne

@metaphor: Damn. That was the topic for my next post :( That’s exactly what I did. I had the 400 MB 199 Plan, and now I changed it to unlimited. Exactly in the middle of the month. And on the 2nd of the next month, net worked like a dream!

Okkay i am really late to reply on this post but just read it….this is an invalid post and the method suggested above is only an authorization for pppoe which is already done during the first setup. or else or internet shoudnt work.

There are hardly any ways in which you can boost MTNL speed….any rookies reading this post do not try the above method…
